Ask Ada: Why Do I Have to Set Up 2-Step Login? (2025)

“Lately, every time I log in to my account, I get a notice asking me to set up something called ‘2-step login’. But it all seems very complicated and I’m not sure if I really need this. Should I bother?”

After all the effort of setting up an account on Tryst, meeting the verification requirements and getting your profile ready, it's understandable you just want to get on with your work - there's just one more thing you need to do, that'll help avoid problems later.

It's called 2-step login and it will be mandatory for all Tryst advertisers as of September 1st, 2023. Throughout August, you’ll see a message encouraging you to set up 2-step login - and from the 1st of September you won't be able to access your account dashboard until it’s activated.

You've probably seen this on other websites, where it's sometimes referred to as ‘multi-factor authentication’ or ‘two-factor authentication’. We've gone into detail on 2-step login on the blog before, but it’s worth going over again.

What Is 2-Step Login?

A password by itself simply isn't enough to keep online accounts safe from jerks, hackers and scammers. Even strong, unique passwords are vulnerable to phishing attacks, which is where two-step login saves the day.

With two-step login enabled, not only do you need a password to log in to an account, but you also need a second piece of information too, like a code from an authenticator app, a physical security key or a passkey.

Think of 2-step login like trying to gain entry to a secret club. You need to know the code word and the secret handshake. Knowing only one piece of the information puzzle isn't enough to get in.

2-Step Login Is Worth The Effort!

Escort advertising websites are lucrative targets for hackers. Even the most vigilant person can get sucked in by a phishing email or scam text message. It happens - on all sites, not just Tryst - and there's no shame in falling victim to it!

When it does happen, the Tryst.link support team can assist, but their options are limited. Sometimes recovery is impossible and you'll have to create a whole new profile. It's a massive drama for everyone involved. No one wants that.

2-step login is one of the best ways to avoid this happening. If a scammer does get your password, they still can't log in to your account because they don't have that second piece of information (the authenticator code app, your physical security key or a passkey).

Even if your email account is compromised and the sneaky bugger does a password reset on your account, they still only know your password and won't be able to log in. Taking a few minutes to set up 2-step login can save you from a world of pain.

Setting Up 2-Step Login

Here's how to get started with 2-step login for your Tryst advertiser account.

1. Access the 2-step login setup page

You can access this by clicking the Manage Account Security button in the Account section of your dashboard. Or if you see a notification encouraging you to set it up, click the Set Two-Step Login button.

2. Select your preferred 2-step login method:

  • Authenticator apps - these apps generate random codes every 30 seconds that Tryst.link will request each time you try to log in. No code, no access. Because they're random and change regularly, even if someone gets an old code, it won't work. This is the simplest way to do two-step login and it’s what we recommend for most users. Google Authenticator, Authy and Microsoft Authenticator are a few of the smartphone apps we suggest.
  • Security key or passkey - security keys are little physical devices that verify you alongside your password. These are the gold standard for two-step login. Passkeys are a new technology that allow the biometric sensors (e.g: fingerprints, faceprints) on a computer or smartphone to provide that second method of verification. Security keys and passkeys are excellent but can also be a bit confusing to manage, so check out this blog post for more info.

3. Save your single-use recovery code somewhere safe!

We give you this code during the two-step login setup process as an absolute-last-resort backup option, should you happen to lose access to your chosen second form of authentication. Without this code, you could be locked out of your account permanently - if the Tryst.link support team is unable to verify you.

Defeat Scammers & Safeguard Your Profile Now

While setting up 2-step login might feel like a burden, it's a vital strategy for both Tryst.link and its users. so we can defend ourselves against the most common forms of scamming and hacking.

Take the time to set up 2-step login now via the Tryst.link dashboard and if you run into any problems, consult our knowledge base or contact the support team.
